Abstract
Employment is increasingly being recognised as an issue for people with young onset dementia. This chapter aims to outline the experiences of people with young onset dementia in the workplace and the support required to facilitate a positive employment outcome. The chapter will explore the role of employment in maintaining identity and wellbeing, as well as the other roles people with young onset dementia take in society to maintain purpose in their lives. The chapter concludes with an example of current research that aims to develop an innovative intervention that will support people with young onset dementia with employment and maintaining purposeful activity post diagnosis.
