Abstract

In this policy paper, Dr Kingsley O. Omeihe discusses why the IMF's view on the silver economy misses the mark and why this matters. Kingsley explains that framing older adults as economic assets to be further ‘utilised’ not only misjudges the realities of ageing but also threatens to undo decades of social progress, hard won through solidarity, political will, and moral clarity. He highlights the need to fully adapt to the complexity of what it means to age in today’s world and to design systems that support those lives, not simply extend their productivity.
