Abstract

The treatment of Acanthamoeba infections is particularly problematic, as Acanthamoeba has demonstrated resistance to current chemotherapies, due to its ability to encyst on exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Understanding the mechanisms of Acanthamoeba encystment, could allow identification of encystment-inhibitory targets to maintain the organism in its anti-amoebic susceptible state.
