    Abstract

Douglas-Smith (UWS), Kaparounaki (University of Dundee), Sidhva (UWS) and Simpson (UWS) conducted a qualitative written survey with an optional photo-elicitation task study to explore the physical workspaces of participants in higher education during lockdowns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The surveys were completed by 26 students and teachers engaging with emergency remote teaching in higher education. The shoe box models represent 3 collages of the images collected in this study to represent the overarching themes of student and educator needs, adaptions of workspaces, and public and private identities. The findings of this study have implications regarding how Universities support staff and students when working away from the campus. The models are interactive with participants welcome to move components of the models to generate their ideal workspace or to represent their own experiences of working from home (regardless of if this was within the education sector or beyond) with the option to annotate with post-it notes.
