Abstract
This book focuses on a number of aspects of database management systems that are important in real life application, but in which current products fall short of what is required.
The book will make a contribution to DBMS design by suggesting a number of fundamental improvements to DBMS architecture, and validating them by means of a working proof-of-concept DBMS, Pyrrho, that includes not just the basic relational model, but most of the features of ISO-standard SQL and some other suggestions from the database community.
