Abstract

The Godfather turns 50 in March. Fans of the saga remain devoted to the original film and appreciate opportunities to express their devotion. There are Facebook groups and Youtube channels. Explanatory videos chart how Vito knew it was ‘Barzini all along’ (a major plot development in the story), or ’10 lessons from The Godfather everyone needs to know’ (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqwlqyi66C8). Sage advice is given: ‘when negotiating never reveal your true goal or aim or it could be leveraged against you’. An online fan wiki asserts that the film will be ‘remembered for its memorable quotes…violence, family and friends, and loyalty’(https://godfather.fandom.com/wiki/The_Godfather_Wiki).
