Abstract

Since its first published edition, the BASES (British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences) Physiological Testing Guidelines have represented the leading knowledge base of testing methodology for sport and exercise scientists. Sport and exercise physiologists are called upon to carry out physiological assessments that have proven validity and reliability, in laboratory, sport and clinical-specific contexts. A variety of test protocols have been developed and refined to support the use of exercise to improve the health of clinical populations. Specific chapters outline safe and ethical environments for testing and how to appropriately contextualise testing outcomes.
Presented in two volumes, Volume I covering sport-specific testing, and Volume II clinical and exercise testing, this book is a comprehensive guide to the protocols and to the key issues in physiological testing.
With contributions from leading specialist sport and exercise physiologists and clinicians, covering a range of physiologically based tests commonly used to assess and monitor clinical conditions, this volume is an essential resource for clinical-specific exercise testing in research and applied settings. This new edition draws on the authors’ experience of supporting individuals with a range of clinical complications. The revised format provides new information for specific clinical groups and assessment techniques. These specific chapters are supported by appropriate web resources.
