Abstract
Single-stage sealing of ceramic tiles by means of high-power diode laser (HPDL) radiation was discussed. A 60 W HPDL was used to study the feasibility of sealing the void with a specially developed grout material. Tiles were sealed with power densities of 750 W/cm2 and at rates of 420 mm/min. The seals generated were found to be tough and inexpensive, and provided an amorphous and crack-free surface glaze.
