Abstract
Original composition, production and release of an ambitious collection of music featuring an eclectic mix of accomplished and highly respected artists. Including the Paul Buchanan (The Blue Nile), Karen Matheson OBE, Julie Fowlis and the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Funded by Creative Scotland. Released internationally by Marina Records. Published by 23rd Precinct /Notting-Hill Music and performed at the International Celtic Connections Music festival. Broadcasted extensively on BBC radio 2, 6, Scotland and many other notable stations.
The work is a collection of songs and compositions, a combination of new works and new interpretations of traditional Scottish Gaelic song. The project utilises electronic soundscapes in the medium of traditional music to story tell in a way the authors could not have envisioned. The manipulation of field recordings, electronic sound textures and orchestration print emotions in a unique form, the coalescing of Sonic’s define the narrative of the work. The work blends the idea of human desolation and a mournful sound in nature. The project engages with music technology and develops a strategy for music composition, arrangement, communication and storytelling utilising a digital audio workstation as an instrument.
