Abstract

This chapter will outline the cultural context within which artist teachers operate in Scotland. It will examine the reality of how they practise within the Scottish education system and show how multiple forms of partnership can support their work. In evaluating the cultural context for artist teachers we will see where this impacts upon how young people engage with contemporary visual art learning, both within and outwith the formal education sector in Scotland. We aim to elaborate upon the role of partnership and collaboration in facilitating the development and delivery of an art education model that truly reflects authentic artist teacher practice.
