title = "Light scattering from multilayer filter coatings",
abstract = "Outlines are given of a theoretical model for predicting the spectral and spatial distributions of radiation scattered at rough interfaces of optical coatings, as well as the apparatus for measuring these distributions in terms of differential scattering coefficients (DSC). Measurements of DSC for a reflector, narrow-band spectral filters deposited at two extremes of substrate temperature and an uncoated substrate are compared with the corresponding theoretical predictions. The values of DSC integrated over all space are also compared with the predictions of the model and with values of the total integrated scatter (TIS) obtained from photometric observations of the direct transmittance and reflectance of the filter coatings.",
