Abstract
Probation in France has been in transformation since the adoption, by France, of the European Probation Rules (Conseil d'Europe, 2010). In this presentation I reflect on the transformation of probation in Scotland between 1991 and 2010 and the nature of transformational change (Heifetz, 1997). Using the example of assessment practice in Scotland and in France and the Heifetz model, I reflect on an example of transformational change that led to significant improvements in assessment practice in Scotland, making recommendations for further transformation in French assessment practice.
