Abstract
What constitutes Scotland’s leisure, or ‘non-work’, and the complex landscape of arts and culture underpinned by ideological positions, cultural histories of policy and varying ethos of practice? This chapter considers this question in order to assesses 'what’s wrong' with the current state of leisure and culture, and to ask why certain issues and realities remain problematic and challenging for Scotland. It then turns to considering alternative futures and focuses with concluding remarks as to how these might be realised.
