    Abstract

Energy storage systems is one of the efficient means of ensuring that power generated from renewable sources are used judiciously especially during off peak times when demand is very low. This investigation delved into materials ideal for some energy storage systems like the lithium ion batteries, Supercapacitors and the Superconductive magnetic energy storage. Other materials for hydrogen energy storage are also captured in this investigation. The need for further investigations being carried out on these energy storage materials in spite of their immense progress made worldwide has equally been discussed thoroughly.
