Abstract

In the second half of the 20th century, computer science entered the unsettled context of theories of art thanks to three scientists, who independently started using their computers for artistic purposes. The critiques raised by such attempts are the same as the ones moved against computer science in its beginnings, and deal with the impossibility of obtaining any original or surprising results from a computer. This work aims at investigating the relation between computer science and art to show that the actual situation is significantly different.
