note = "Jo is lecturer on the Performance Programme at the University of the West of Scotland. She is a practice-based researcher and has recently completed her PhD at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. Her practice as research thesis entitled, {\textquoteleft}Capital, Cooperation and Creating Performance: BloodWater Theatre Develops Ownership in Collaborative Theatre Practice{\textquoteright} argues for the possibility of non-hierarchical collaborative theatre production within a capitalist economy. She founded BloodWater Theatre to experiment with egalitarian ways of making theatre. The collective produced, Whose Story Is It Anyway? at the Tron Theatre (Glasgow) in October 2011 and, Leave Your Shoes at the Door at the CCA (Glasgow) in January 2014. Besides collaboration, her research interests also lie in applied/participatory performance, devising and models of actor training. Jo was Associate Director with 7:84 (Scotland) directing its final production, Eclipse by Haresh Sharma which toured Scotland and Singapore. Other directing credits for the company include The Algebra of Freedom by Raman Mundair, inspired by the police shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes at a London Underground Station in 2005 and Re:Union by McCartney, Sharma, Dimitrevic and McClean, a series of short plays marking the 300th anniversary of the 1707 Act of Union. Jo cofounded The Necessary Stage in Singapore in 1987 working with the company till 1994 when she settled in Scotland. She has undergraduate degrees from the National University of Singapore and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; a postgraduate teaching diploma from the National Institute of Education (Singapore) and achieved a distinction on the MA Actor Training and Coaching from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.
