Abstract

Student engagement is widely recognized as essential to effective learning (Trowler, 2010); however, traditional approaches focused on attendance and passive learning are no longer sufficient. The Advance HE Student Academic Experience Survey 2024 reveals how rising living costs and mental health challenges are reshaping students’ needs. Students are calling for more holistic support: high-quality teaching, timely feedback, career preparation, and a stronger sense of belonging within their academic communities (Neves et al., 2024), through inclusive learning environments and meaningful collaboration with both peers and staff.
