Abstract
In this discussion paper, Olufunke Olawale and Kingsley O. Omeihe reflect on the duality of trust within institutional contexts. They show that trust and distrust among small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) owners are not simply a matter of individual disposition, but are shaped by formal and informal structures, in particular national contexts. The paper highlights how distinct institutional environments generate different trust dynamics in everyday small business life.
