Abstract

In this article different classes of electrode materials will be discussed for fuel cell applications. Due to increased interest in low emission/zero emission energy devices, the development of clean energy generation devices such as fuel cells has seen a rapid growth. Therefore, it seems necessary to address various challenges faced by fuel cell technology such as to enhance the efficiency and stability for the widespread commercialization of this technology. Diverse range of fuel cell electrode materials have been investigated so far providing variable efficiencies. Variable efficiency broadly represents, changing electrode materials from one category to other the overall output of the fuel cell changes effectively. In this article author will attempt to cover the working principle of fuel cell, different type’s categorized mainly by operating temperatures, different types of electrode materials with their impact on the cell performance, thermodynamic of fuel cell and characterization of electrode materials.
