Abstract
This article proposes an analysis of the discourse offered in the opinion columns of ElPunt/Avui+ on the Spanish national Team during the 2010 Football World Cup. Despite the Barça imprint on the team and its ‘catalanicity’, it had to be rejected as the symbol of ‘nationalistic’, ‘subjugating’ and ‘ungrateful’ state following the narrative of Spain as perpetrator and Catalonia as victim. The analysis of a representative text revealed the metaphorization of this conflict in terms of ‘rape’. By means of this discourse the team was rejected, the state constructed as illegitimate and the future understanding presented as impossible.
