Abstract
Although Karl Marx lived in London from 1849 until the end of his life, the socio-political conditions there in the second half of the 19th century made it considerably more difficult for his ideas to be implemented and allowed their dissemination only very slowly and with great difficulty. British socialism was a thoroughly indigenous phenomenon, very different in both its ideas and its movements from its counterparts in continental Europe and North America.
