Abstract

The importance of diaspora entrepreneurship in building sustainable development in their country of origin is widely recognised; however, the contribution level depends on the country-specific context. There is minimal literature on the direction of diaspora Nepalese entrepreneurs. Drawing upon the existing evidence and literature, the current chapter explores that with some unique characteristics, diaspora Nepalese entrepreneurs have contributed significantly to the development of Nepal through remittance, business expansion and collaboration, investment and employment creation, diplomacy and policy support, knowledge exchange, innovation transfer, a hub for international engagement as well as philanthropic and charity events. However, they face challenges related to profit repatriation, identity recognition and administrative procedures. Moreover, connection to the new generation of diaspora entrepreneurs, the impact of digital innovation on diaspora entrepreneurship and retaining and expanding diaspora networks are critical issues for further exploration.
