Abstract

Citizenship is a complex subject area that has experienced consistent contestation for many years. In recent times it has become associated with terrorism in so far as some governments including the UK have introduced law that prevents citizens from returning to countries of origin when they have been deemed threat to its national security. Law about the removal of passports is one aspect of this effective removal to the rights of citizenship and national belonging. This talk ranges widely across the complex landscape of citizenship taking account of the subject of migrants and their legal status in terms of citizenship rights.
