N2 - At a time of major challenges to welfare systems and specifically to labour market policies the theme of the conference is extremely topical. Understanding of the most effective and efficient design and implementation of public policies, including employment policy, is paramount. Margherita Bussi from European Trade Union Institute in Brussels, Katharina Zimmermann from University of Oldenburg, Clara Bourgeois from Centre Emile Durkheim in Bordeaux, and Vanesa Fuertes from Edinburgh Napier University organised the conference, with the invaluable sponsorship of Edinburgh Napier University Business School and the University of Bordeaux. The idea to hold an early-stage researchers conference developed in Hamburg, during a PhD conference. The theme of the conference is related to LOCALISE, a Seventh Framework European project in which Vanesa, Katharina and Clara have worked together.
