Abstract
Integrating blue green infrastructure into urban planning supports climate resilience, biodiversity and public wellbeing. This paper examines the Green and Blue Space Design module at the University of the West of Scotland. This module is designed in line with RTPI-accredited programme outcomes. It aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and professional competencies needed to design multifunctional, climate-resilient urban spaces. It reflects on pedagogical strategies, including experiential, constructivist, collaborative, reflective and transformative approaches. Through field observation, collaborative workshops and LEGO® modelling, students engaged with practical and conceptual challenges in blue green infrastructure. The review highlights transferable teaching approaches for embedding sustainability, spatial design thinking and professional skills in planning education.
