Abstract

Solar energy is one of the most abundant renewable energy sources available, and it is the source of almost all other renewable energy sources. Recently, there has been significant focus on applying solar energy in hydrogen production, electricity generation, wastewater treatment, and others. Producing environmentally efficient photocatalysis is a prerequisite for the successful application of solar energy. This article focuses on the recent progress in preparing an efficient bio-based photocatalyst, i.e., those derived from biochar, biopolymeric substances, enzymes and peptides, etc. This article also covers the challenges facing the preparation and application of such biobased photocatalysts.
