Abstract
This paper presents a planar CPW fed Semicircular patch on Triangle shaped antenna for wide band applications. At first, a simple triangular patch is used with fixed side length L1 and varying W1 to get wideband characteristics and the antenna resonates at 5.8GHz. Later, a semicircular patch is placed above the triangle. The resultant structure produced one more resonant mode at the lower frequency by widening the overall resonant bandwidth and slightly shifting the higher resonant mode towards lower frequency. The measured -10dB impedance bandwidth is about 3.12GHz (2.91GHz-6.03GHz) which is considered as wide band. The resonant peaks are observed at 3.45GHz, 4.59GHz, and 5.67GHz. The first and third peaks fall in WiMAX (3.4GHz-3.6GHz) and WLAN (5.47GHz-5.725GHz) applications. The effect of substrate dielectric constant and thickness have been evaluated. The results of antenna are simulated by using MOM based IE3D tool. Two-dimensional radiation patterns with elevation and azimuth angles, VSWR, return loss of -25.42dB, -27.78dB, -34.38dB at 3.45GHz, 4.59GHz, and 5.67GHz respectively, gain above 4dB are obtained. The compact aperture area of the antenna is 32.2 × 54.85 mm2.
