Project Details
Description
Effluent from wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) are often considered the ‘hub’ for environmental and human health monitoring due to their common anthropogenic attributes. These consist of a complex mixture of inorganic and organic contaminants that enter freshwater systems. These subsequently impact the microbiome and in-turn negatively affect environmental and human health. Due to the highly dynamic nature of rivers, the fate, behaviour, and impact, especially of organic contaminants on microbial communities, are highly complex and not fully understood.
