Overview

Vinodhini Murugavel is a dedicated lecturer and academic working within the School of Health and Life Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland. With a strong focus on dementia care, Vinodhini combines extensive teaching experience with a robust clinical experience background to advance the nursing field through education.

 

She is a personal tutor and Academic Assessor for Part 1, 2, and 3 nursing students while serving as the Disability Coordinator for adult nursing students at the Lanarkshire campus. Vinodhini is part of the teaching faculty for the International Nurses OSCE program. She is an experienced academic lead for Alzheimer Scotland Centre’s Carers’ Academy policy within a careers academy partnership in Ayrshire, on Arran. She actively teaches pre-registration nursing students and is keenly interested in mentoring and supervising MSc students. Her contributions extend to supporting student interviews, induction, open days, and skills training.

 

In her research endeavours, Vinodhini is part of the Alzheimer’s Scotland Centre for Policy and Practice, where she contributes to dementia care research and formulation of dementia education within the pre-registration nursing programs. Her research work focuses on understanding the traumatic experiences of the diagnostic pathway of dementia diagnosis, advocating for a trauma-informed approach. Additionally, she is trained in Low-intensity Cognitive-behavioural Therapy and compassionate-focused therapy.

Vinodhini's professional experience includes roles as a Community Mental Health Nurse at NHS Lanarkshire, where she provided high standards of care for patients with mental disorders, and as an Addiction Nurse Practitioner within the prison service, delivering comprehensive nursing services within a prison setting. She has previous clinical practice experience as a senior care assistant with care home environments, providing direct patient care and staff supervision.
