Overview
Tahir Mahmood got his degree of BS (Hons.) in Statistics with distinction (Gold Medalist) from the Department of Statistics, University of Sargodha, Sargodha, Pakistan. He received his MS (Applied Statistics) degree from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He received his PhD (Systems Engineering) from the Department of Systems Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
In addition to the above main academic degree, he has a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Currently, he is completing a Postgraduate Certificate Academic Practice (PGCAP) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) from the University of the West of Scotland, Paisley, United Kingdom platform.
He has a wide range of teaching experience. He has previously held the position of Lecturer in the Department of Technology at the School of Science and Technology of The Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), Hong Kong. He has also served as an assistant professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Nowadays, he is Lecturer in the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences, University of the West of Scotland, Paisley, United Kingdom.
His current research interests include Green Quality Control, Statistical Process Monitoring, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence & Big Data

His expertise is diverse, stemming from his multi-disciplinary degrees. He possesses strong competencies in Mathematics, Statistics, Quality Engineering, Data Science, Computing, and Databases. He is interested in projects involving data analysis, quality and quantity improvements, surveillance mechanisms, real-time dashboards, high-dimensional data analysis, and AI & big data solutions.
Current research activities
Currently, he is focusing on AI-based surveillance techniques, high-dimensional data Analysis, and creative dashboard design.
Current teaching activities and interests
He is teaching courses related to IT and data science. Namely:
- Database Applications: SQL and NoSQL databases were taught in this module.
- Data Warehouse Environments: This module is a blend of Data Warehouse Designing and Business Intelligence.
- Advanced Data Science: This module covers the basic and advanced data science principles, including Regression, Classification and Clustering methods, Pipelines, Deep Learning, and Dimension Reduction Approaches.
- IT Strategy and Management: This module covers IT Strategic Planning, IT Governance Frameworks (ITIL and COBIT), IT Service Management, IT Risk Management, Enterprise Architecture, Agile Software Development Lifecycle and Project Portfolio Management

He has good skills in software like Python, R-Language, SAS, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, SPSS, MINITAB, SQL, EVIEWS, Xlstat and Stats Direct. He offers workshops on Introduction to R and Python, Basic Data Analysis, Data Analysis in STEM, and Quality Improvements (Lean and Six Sigma).
