Area of academic expertise - outline

Developing pedagogical approaches in undergraduate nursing, in particular the use of critical thinking, argumentality and critical writing.

The critical nature of professionalism particularly with respect to the works of Foucault

Current teaching; Population health, economics & politics in health care, quality improvement, nurturing research in undergrdauate nurses.

Current research activities

Year 4 Professional Doctoral Candidate. Foucauldian discourse analysis of leadership in midwifery. The role of professional regulation, in particular revalidation and certification within health care environments

Desired research direction

Collaboration with Dr Stephen Day, School of Eduction; Seperating thinking from knowledge in nurse education, working paper in draft

To offer new understanding around power/knowledge relationships within healthcare, particulary in nursing and midwifery.

Explorations within healthcare fields around governance, professional identity and accountability
