Overview

I am a microbiologist with research interests in environmental microbiology. My primary interests are microbial remediation of xenobiotic-contaminated land, microbial bioleaching of Critical Raw Materials from WEEE and the production of biofuels by microorganisms. Recently supervised projects include studies on the effects of culture conditions on potential levels of biodiesel production by algal species, screening of actinomycetes as antagonists of fungal phytopathogens and the characterisation and optimisation of methanogenic populations in biogas plants. Current preliminary trials on microbial bioaccumulation of metals from waste PCBs represents the initial stages of developing novel remediation techniques for this growing global pollution problem.
