I am a lecturer on the Career Development and Guidance Postgraduate programmes at UWS. I am also a registered career development professional with the Career Development Institute (CDI).
I am module leader and lecturer on two postgraduate modules: Career Development Theory and Career Related Policy.
I supervise masters students undertaking the MSc in Career Guidance and Development.
My PhD (completed in 2021) focused on the career development and migration trajectories of higher education students from the islands of Orkney and Shetland. My research interests are focused on issues of place, mobility and migration and their relationship with career development trajectories. I am also interested in the implications of place and mobility for career guidance policy and practice.
Much of my own research has taken place in the North of Scotland and the Scottish Islands. However, I am interested in issues of place, rurality and island experiences more broadly, including collaborating with international colleagues on different papers and projects.
Alongside my academic research I have also worked as a research consultant. My consultancy work has typically focused on best practice in career guidance and education policy and practice, and has included work in Scotland, England and work with a global focus.
