Overview

Robert Smith is a Professor of Enterprise and Innovation based at the Crichton Campus in Dumfries. He was formerly a Reader in Entrepreneurship and SIPR lecturer in Leadership and Management at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. He is a prolific researcher with over 170 publications. His main research interests are rural entrepreneurship, gender and entrepreneurship and criminal entrepreneurship. Rob is a former carrer police constable and has an extensive entrepreneurship and policing network.

Area of academic expertise - outline

My area of research is eclectic (being an heterodox scholar).

 

In relation to entrepreneurship I have expertise in rural entrepreneurship and enterprise; narrative and entrepreneurship,gender and entrepreneurship; Small and family business; and criminal entrepreneurship. I have an interest in qualitative research methods and in third sector enterprise. I am amember of ISBE.

 

In relation to policing I have an interest in community policing, crime prevention, entrepreneurial policing and criminal entrepreneurship. I am amember of BSC and SIPR.

 

I am available for contract research and consultancy.

Current research activities

My current research activities include

1. Farming and dyslexia (forthcoming book chapters).

2. Community policing and crime reduction (research projects and outputs for policing journals in preperation).

3. Entrepreneurial identity and narrative (various studies ongoing).

4. Rural crime (various studies ongoing).

Desired research direction

I am very research orientated and particularly interested in the intersection beteen business, policing and crime. I have an interest in food fraud and crime in the agricultural sector and would welcome enquiries regarding these areas.

I am also interested in developing narrative and storytelling as consultancy products.
