My current field of research concerns mature students experiences of higher education. Part of this has concerned the supports and barriers to technology use in education experienced by older learners.

Area of academic expertise - outline

Research interests include frailty and the management of long-term conditions, particularly dementia and COPD, Care home research, educational research that looks at older people, mature students and their experiences of life-long learning. Also older peoples’ use of information technologies. Practitioner research particularly in relation to the care and management of older people.

Current research activities

Currently undertaking a Doctorate in Education at the University of Strathclyde

MSc Supervision and encouraging successful MSc students to disseminate and publish their work.

Desired research direction

Nearing completion of my EdD, so actively seeking opportunities for research dissemination as well as actively writing for publication. Following this to seek funding opportunities for collaborative, innovative multidisciplinary research with collaborative partners.

Currently working with Alzheimer Scotland; NHS Education Scotland.

Target collaborative organisations

Care Home companies and other community based healthcare providers, companies that provide healthcare to the National Health Service and third sector organisations.
