Overview

Joining UWS in late May, 2023.  Dr Muñoz has participated in academic activity previously in Japan as visiting scholar researching about tourism and the Global South, in Costa Rica as lecturer in the subjects of governance and policy, and territorial management, and in Malaysia as guest speaker for workshops held by the Centre of Latin American Studies of Malaya University in Malaysia.

His work encompasses a variety of subjects where he has explored the relationship between militarism and tourism, tourism and geopolitics, tourism in relationship with the Global South, and colonialism in the modern era. Other research interests of his are the manipulation of public opinion, public policy and AI, cooperativism, and regional development.

 

Current research activities

Dr Muñoz is working with colleagues from the Centre for Migration, Diaspora, Citizenship & Identity on the topic of tourism and its relationship with host communities, and how it may influence a variety of migration flows to and from an area, and its implications.

Also, he is also working with colleagues from the Sustainable Policy Analysis Centre analysing the impact of AI on learning cultures, and more widely on policy issues and society.

Furthermore, he co-supervises PhD comparative research mental health policies in Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
