I am a Lecturer in Community Education and member of the research hub: Institute of Youth and Community Studies. I have 14 years experience in Community Education, working in the fields of Youth Work, Adult Learning, and most recently Family Learning.
I have been involved in research and teaching in Higher and Further Education for over 8 years. This has included teaching on National Certificate, up to and including, Masters Level programmes. I was previously course lead on the HNC Working in Communities and Youth Work cousres at Ayrshire College. Teaching specialisms have included lifelong learning, community learning and development, adult education, power and empowerment, critical pedagogy, research methods, youth work, and sociology. I currently teach across the B.A. Community Education programme in the Hamilton campus at the University of the West of Scotland.
I am currently researching how critical pedagogy can be used as an anti-racist strategy in community settings. I am also supervising a PhD which focuses on exploring the impact of youth work on the lives of young people.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
