My postgraduate research was in digital image classification using a range of techniques, but in particular neural networks. In more recent years my academic area of expertise has moved towards multimedia and animation. Lately I have also developed an interest in game engine technologies, and the possibilities offered for immersive and responsive content. Among these are generating character emotion procedurally and in response to game events, and relating this to in-game audio. Novel approaches to visualising environments are also of interest.
In my current role, teaching commitments do not allow for time in my activity plan to be dedicated to research. Scholarship in relevant areas does allow me to keep abreast of current developments. Any research projects would most likely focus on the areas outlined above.
The current development of technologies for animation and games is extremely rapid. I am keen to investigate the effective use of VR technologies for visualisation. This could lead to potential collaborative projects.
