Personal profile

Overview

Dr Pablo Salva-García is a Lecturer in Computing at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), where he is the Programme Leader for the BSc in Web and Mobile Development  and Director of the Beyond 5G Hub research group. He holds a PhD in Computing Networks and has extensive experience in large-scale, EU-funded research projects, including several Horizon initiatives focused on next-generation communication systems.

His research expertise lies in advanced Software Defined Neworks, data plane programmability, and cognitive control planes for 5G and beyond networks, with a strong emphasis on cloud computing and cloud-native infrastructures. In particular, his work explores the design and evaluation of scalable cloud architectures, edge–cloud integration, and software-defined infrastructures to support high-performance, flexible, and intelligent networked services.

In parallel with his research activities, Dr Salva-García has a strong interest in Higher Education, particularly in curriculum leadership, programme design, and the alignment of computing education with industry needs.

Current teaching activities and interests

My current research activities are centred on National and EU Horizon projects related to Beyond 5G and 6G networks, where I contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of intelligent and programmable network architectures to support vertical applications.

I am actively involved in producing high-quality research outputs, including journal papers, conference publications, and technical reports, often in collaboration with international academic and industrial partners.

In parallel, I lead and contribute to research activities within the Beyond5GHub research group, fostering collaboration across institutions and disciplines.

Ongoing Projects:
- EU Horizon project: RIGOUROUS (PI)
- EU Horizon project: P2CODE (PI)
- EU Horizon project: 6GPATH (PI)
- DSIT project: 5GIR (Project 2) (Co-I)
- Innovate UK KTP: Houston Kiltmakers (Co-I)

Current teaching activities and interests

I am currently a Lecturer and Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) in Web and Mobile Development. My teaching spans multiple levels and focuses on developing students’ technical competence, problem-solving skills, and professional readiness.

My teaching interests include:
- Web and mobile application development, with an emphasis on modern frameworks and best practices.
- Software engineering principles and project-based learning.
- Research methods and technical writing for undergraduate students.

I am especially committed to curriculum design, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices.

Target collaborative companies

I am interested in collaborating with companies working in telecommunications, networking, cloud computing and services, particularly those exploring  future digital systems.

I have expertise in industry digital transformation, supporting organisations as they evolve into a new digital era. This includes helping companies rethink processes, systems, and ways of working to become more agile, innovative, and resilient in an increasingly digital and connected landscape.

I am especially keen to work with companies looking to translate research outcomes into practical, deployable solutions, and to develop long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships through collaborative research and knowledge exchange.
