Personal profile


I am currently Assistant Dean (Education) in the School of Media, Culture & Society. In this role, I have responsibility for leading and managing School activities and reputation in the policy area of Education. I lead and co-ordinate a portfolio that includes learning and teaching, pedagogies, programmes, student experience and quality assurance and enhancement. I am a member of the School Leadership team and lead and chair the School Education Forum. I am also a member of the institutional Education Advisory Committee, the Academic Quality Committee, the Assessment Group, and the Technology Advisory Committee. I am former Vice-Chair of the UWS Student Experience Committee and serve/have served on various institutional working groups supporting student performance and experience. I have a proven track record of leadership and managing change within higher education, evidencing impact in my practice at institutional and national level. I lead a cross-institutional, cross-domain staff/student partnership change group on the Higher Education Academy ‘Students as Partners in the Curriculum’ change programme. I am highly experienced and skilled in the use of electronic technologies in the educational environment and has a deep knowledge and understanding of innovative and disruptive pedagogies in this field.

Current research activities

My research is focused on learning and teaching, particulalry around learning in partnership, co-creation, learner agency, change agency, curriculum design and development, and assessment and feedback. I am currently working on a number of papers drawing on data gathered from related projects.

Desired research direction

Future research will exploit the work undertaken in the areas above and the data collected from related projects. I will also be setting up a series of scholarship of learning and teaching projects, supporting cross-School, cross-domain collaborative research into pedagogy, learning & assessment design and education practice and experience.
