Area of academic expertise - outline

Monika’s research interests lie in cross-cultural management, employability, internationalization of higher education, intercultural aspects, and leadership and change management (HR). Furthermore, her research interests lie in international mobility and study destination choices and internationalisation of the curriculum. Monika has led a number of large and bespoke international, cross-institutional and interdisciplinary projects to scope and design mechanisms for assisting students with the transitions.

Current research activities

Monika’s current research projects include:

- EU Commission funded: Jean Monnet Erasmus+ research project on the ‘Development of research informed teaching materials to generate ‘Best Practice’ cross-fertilisation of European Union Studies and Erasmus Exchange Programmes for Business Studies Students for enhanced employability’. A collaborative study with Hague University of Social Sciences and Edinburgh Napier University

- ‘Commuter students’ a study of Direct Entry students sense of purpose and engagement in university studies. A collaborative study with Sheffield Hallam University

- A scoping study of international student transitions as part of the QAA Enhancement Theme Student Transitions with Edinburgh Napier University

Desired research direction

- Building on the EU funded research, to seek Leverhulme funding for a cross-university study of modern universities engaging with the ‘Commuter students’

- Cross-fertilisation of Business studies with European awareness against the backdrop of Brexit
