Area of academic expertise - outline

Michael's research interests include accounting education, corporate social responsibility, and social and environmental accounting.  His papers have appeared in 'Journal of Business Ethics' and 'Studies in Higher Education'.


Michael received 'British Accounting and Finance Association Special Interest Group on Accounting Education Annual Best Paper Prize 2011' for his paper ‘Understanding plagiarism by accounting students: an empirical study in accounting education’ published in ‘Accounting Education: an International Journal’.  More recently, he was awarded ‘Best Developmental Paper’ by International Business & International Management Special Interest Group at British Academy of Management Annual Conference 2016 for his paper ‘Understanding the Impact of Cultural Factors on Ethical Decision-Making by Professional Accountants: an Inter-country Comparison’.


Michael is particularly interested in supervising doctoral students in the area of accounting and finance in China.  Current projects include 'Going global: Chinese banks’ expansion in the United Kingdom' and 'Corporate social disclosure in the Chinese food industry'.
