Personal profile

Overview

Matthew Reid qualified as an RMN in 2006, working initially within various continuing care and rehabilitation services at NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

In 2010, he was one of the first mental health nurses to work within a newly established forensic rehabilitation ward based at Ailsa Hospital in Ayr.  In 2014, he undertook a joint appointment between the inpatient service and community forensic mental health team which was, at the time, the first initiative of its kind in Scotland.

The following year in 2015, Matthew became a Lecturer Practitioner in Mental Health at UWS, working collaboratively between the NHS and Higher Education. He also spent several months working in an Intensive Psychiatric Care Unit as part of his clinical remit during this time.

In 2018, Matthew left NHS Ayrshire and Arran and became a Clinical Educator for NHS Dumfries and Galloway, helping to deliver a range of advanced clinical nursing skills to the adult and mental health directorates. He also spent a brief period of time here in the role of Practice Education Facilitator.

Matthew returned to UWS in 2022 as a full time Lecturer in Mental Health and Integrated Practice.
