Personal profile
Overview
I am a researcher in sport and organisational psychology with a particular interest in group dynamics and personality. Specifically, I am interested in how teams navigate and resolve their conflicts and how this impacts their overall effectiveness.
Other research interests include establishing associations between personality and body image and how these relationships can help inform interventions.
Area of academic expertise - outline
I have expertise on the theoretical and applied implications of personality (namely narcissism) and team functioning (e.g., cohesion, intragroup conflict, communication). Additional expertise include the role of narcissism in body image disorders and how this informs future intervention development. Furthermore, I have experience of the psychology of behaviour change for physical activity.
Beyond my research areas, I have expertise in quantitative research methods such as multilevel modelling, Bayesian statistics, and latent profile analysis. I am proficient in both Mplus and R programming languages.
Current research activities
Psychosocial development in Elite Youth Football
In collaboration with St. Mirren FC, I am contributing to the development and evaluation of a psychosocial training curriculum implemented across the club’s academy. This project aims to assess both the feasibility and effectiveness of the curriculum by exploring the perceptions of key stakeholders, including parents, coaches, players, and practitioners.
Conflict Resolution in Teams
Effective teamwork relies heavily on the ability to navigate and resolve conflict constructively. Whilst taxonomies of conflict managment have been identified in the literature, their applicability and effectiveness within sports teams remain underdeveloped. This project aims to examine the antecedents and outcomes associated with different conflict management styles, with the goal of identifying strategies that enable teams to manage disagreements effectively.
