Area of academic expertise - outline

Masood is a Lecturer in Events and Tourism Management at School of Business and Enterprise, University of the West of Scotland (UK). He specialises in policy, planning, and marketing aspects of tourism studies. Masood is recognised internationally as an expert on Iranian travel and tourism. He has published widely in highly regarded tourism journals and is the author of several works focusing on the Iranian hospitality and tourism industry. He is currently supervising a number of PhD/DBA research projects at UWS. Masood is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the British Institute of Persian Studies. He has a number of years’ experience in the hospitality and tourism industry and has worked for companies such as Gleneagles, Hilton and the G1 Group.

In addition to his academic role, Masood is the School’s TNE Regional Collaborations Lead (RCL) for South East Asia (Malaysia & Singapore). In this role, Masood is leading programme-specific development of academic staff, moderation, providing academic advice to UWS and the collaborating institution, monitoring teaching and assessment, and overall management of the relationship with the TNE partners.

Current research activities

Masood is currently working on 3 collaborative research project focusing on

  1.  Cognitive structures of Iranian senior tourists towards domestic tourism destinations.
  2. Information technology competency and knowledge management: Their contributions to service supply chain in the hospitality industry
  3. The Role of Environmental Education in Geotourism Destination

International Tourism Organisation: Public/Private specialing in tourism marketing, destination branding, destination development.

I am interested in collaborating with Destination Tourism Organisations as well as other public and private sector organisation enagged in tourism policy, planning and development.

I am also interested in collaborative research projects with colleagues from other national and international institutions working on similar research areas.

In addition to my research activities, I have experience of developing and delivering Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Recognised Teacher of the University (RTU) training.
