Personal profile

I am a Senior Lecturer with formal subject leader responsibilities across a cognate group of programmes aligned to the Division of Adult Nursing and Healthcare. My research interests are focused upon pedagogy and currciula development within nurse education.  The interface between nursing and other academic disciplines is an area of work that I am involved with.

Area of academic expertise - outline

I shape, design, and support delivery of pre-registration and post-registration nursing programmes.  I also contribute to the education of other healthcare professionals, including Operating Department Practitioners, Paramedics, and Midwives. I have experience in the use of research methods aligned with phenomenology, particularly in relation to the philosophy and methods of van Manen. I am interested in the use of social learning theories such as Communities of Practice in order to understand student experiences within practice learning environments.

Current research activities

I am currently engaged in research exploring student nurses' experiences of higher education. The focus is upon their encounters with the disciplines of social science and bioscience, and is set across the domains of theory and practice.

Desired research direction

I will continue my work in the areas highlighted above to inform learning and teaching approaches and curriculum development.
