Overview

My research interests are mainly focussed on pedagogy and curricula development within nurse education.  The interface between nursing and other academic disciplines is an area of work that I am involved with.  The transition into pre-registration nursing at undergraduate level is another research focus. 

Area of academic expertise - outline

I have experience in the use of research methods aligned with the Social Constructionism.  My expertise in the use of phenomenology is developing, particularly in relation to the philosophy and methods of van Manen.  I am interested in the use of social learning theories such as Communities of Practice in order to understand student experiences within practice learning environments. 

Current research activities

I am currently a PhD student at the University of the West of Scotland undertaking qualitative research into student's experiences of the pre-registration nursing curriculum. I am also a member of the Biosciences in Nursing Education HEA special interest group and am undertaking work in related areas.

Desired research direction

I will continue my work in the areas highlighted above to inform learning and teaching approaches and curriculum development.
