Personal profile

Area of academic expertise - outline

I have over a decade of experience in the application of sport science within performance sport, but I have predominately worked within football. Currently I work within womens football supporting both club and international squads. This work underpins my teaching practice and provides the context for my current research direction. In particular I specialises in combining the science of performance analysis and strength & conditioning with the art coaching practice. However, I also have  knowhow in the application of biomechanics, having been the focus of my Masters research.

I am a member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), the United Kindgom Strength & Conditioning Association (UKSCA), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association based in America (NSCA). I have also presented research on multiple occassions at BASES and UKSCA national conferences.

Current research activities

Currently I am investigating the pedagogical application of match analysis within football from multiple persepctives through my PhD studies. Whilst there is much published work on the end product of match analysis little is know about how analysis is utilised and how such coaching interventioned are experiences by key stakeholders (athletes, coaches, analysts). Therefore the aim of this work is to investiage cases on match analysis utilisation and to inform the discussion around best practice. Additionally I am supervising MRes students investigating the complexity of coaching practice in youth football and the impact of injury prevention in a school of sport.
