Personal profile
Overview
In my role as Lecturer in Education at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), I teach on both our BA and PGDE Primary programmes.
Prior to commencing this position in 2020, I was an Associate Lecturer at UWS and Principal Teacher within East Renfrewshire, simultaneously. My school teaching experience is wide and varied, having taught in various local authorities across Scotland, as well as teaching in Australia for a period. Throughout this time I have developed interests in many wide ranging areas which support the development of new teachers.
These include:
Exploring the experiences of new teachers and mentors. This has been the focus of a research initiative through the International Professional Development Association, looking at how these roles are perceived and experienced across Scotland and England, using the medium of collage.
Holocaust Education I developed an interest in teaching and learning the Holocaust through involvement in teaching controversial issues and citizenship to undergraduate student teachers. I am currently a member of the Vision Schools Scotland team, supporting teachers across Scotland to deliver meaningful Holocaust education.
Teacher Turnover I am currently involved in a research initiative exploring the reasons why teachers in Scotland have either left the profession or reduced their hours and/or responsibilities.
