Personal profile
Overview
My recent research interests have included research within the fields of Public Health, exercise psychology and social inclusion. In particular, I research inclusive and accessible sport and physical activity for targeted populations including people with disabilities and people living with dementia. I am interested in the factors influencing participation and understanding the lived experiences of people accessing physical activity.
I am experienced in utilising multiple qualitative data collection and analysis methods. I also have experience in working with large quantitative datasets relating to project evaluation within public health.
Current research activities
My current research activities include Project Echo, an investigation of the legacy impact of Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 Toronto Pan American and Para Pan American Games. Project Echo seeks to capture the voice of those impacted by the games as they express their opinions, experiences and thoughts on the impacts, participation opportunities and constraints of hosting large sporting events. Additionally, it seeks to understand the lived experiences of people with disabilities accessing and partaking in sport and physical activity within the host cities.
I am also currently working in collaboration with the Observatory for Sport in Scotland on a research project aimed at Understanding Sport and Disability in Scotland. This project is seeking to gain an indepth insight into the landscape of disability, sport and physical activity in Scotland and the challenges and issues faced by people with disabilities.
