Personal profile

Overview

My background is in primary school teaching, and I have classroom experience across all stages, as well as middle management experince as a Principal Teacher. My particular interests in school were in practitioner enquiry, teachers' professional learning and supporting student and probationer teachers, and I have undertaken postgraduate study in these areas. At UWS I teach on a wide range of modules across the BA Education and PGDE(P) programmes.

I am an active committee member of the International Professional Development Committee (IPDA) (Scotland) and a keen participant in UWS's Teacher Educator Professional Learning journal club.

Current research activities

I am a student on the University of Strathclyde's EdD programme, examining the work of school-based teacher educators who support Initial Teacher Education students on school placement; and partnerships between schools and ITE providers. I am affiliated to the Measuring Quality in Initial Teacher Edcuation (MQuITE) study and have recently been engaged in co-authoring (with Professor Aileen Kennedy of the University of Strathclyde) a chapter on mentoring in Scottish schools for the Palgrave Handbook of Teacher Education Research.
